I found a bunch of pottery to redo for the wedding. I wanted it to feel old and vintage but with a slight modern feel. Check out how I did it!
The first step is to scour used sites or locations to find some pottery pieces that you love. I wanted large round ones that felt like old Chinese vintage pottery.
Step Two is to clean the pottery with just a damp rag, doesn’t need to be a thorough job, just enough to make the spray paint stick to the surface. I then found some matte black spray paint and lightly sprayed on 2 layers to each pot. Letting the top dry before flipping it over to spray the bottom half. Once again, nothing about this process needs to be perfect. You want it to look old and worn so imperfection is key!
Step Three is to get your hands dirty!! Add some spackle in random spots to the pot. I get a handful and rub it on. I like to do long, horizontal strokes so it feels more authentic.
Step Four is to add some wet dirt to the entire exterior of the pot. I like to mix some of my soil, some is clay based so it gives the pot a little more color variation. Rub it all on and let it dry.
Step Five is to sand it down. Pick random spots to sand it down. I even sanded it down to the original pot in some places to make different color variations shine through.
Step Six, enjoy your pots! Fill them with what you want to make them look fabulous. I found pots online that were in the $1,000 that looked like this. I spent SO much less and made them my own. Go get your hands dirty, get creative, and reuse some old pottery to make it new and fresh for you!
